DL.org Mission

A common journey to new frontiers

DL.org is mobilising Digital Library (DL) designers, developers, end-users and researchers from diverse domains in the drive towards interoperability, best practices and modelling foundatons for the enhanced development of next-generation DL systems. Specific outputs include an enhanced, community-driven DL Reference Model and a Technology & Methodology Cookbook with a portfolio of best practices and solutions on common issues for the development of large-scale interoperable DL systems. DL.org Outcomes

Interoperability is key to advancing Digital Libraries and opening up new research perspectives across diverse domains. DL.org is investigating the complexities of interoperability from multiple perspectives: content, functionality, user, policy, quality and architecture. DL.org has produced the 1st release of the Digital Library Reference Model, V1.0, by consolidating and enhancing DELOS Reference Model as part of an on-going process to enable the DL community to share a common understanding and follow the same route when it comes to dealing with entities in this complex universe. Our latest interview is with Wolfram Horstmann, CIO at Bielefeld University Library, Expert in the DL.org Quality Working Group and Programme Chair of the 5th International conference on Open Repositories, July 2010 in Madrid, Spain.

Downloadable PDF Interview

"The role of quality in DL.org’s Working Group is twofold. On the one hand, there is reliability of services. When building systems and operating on data in a distributed infrastructure, you need to be able to rely on every part. Precision of data is the second challenge."

Wolfram Horstmann
