In the future, DLs will be widely distributed and heterogeneity is expected to be the norm in the six fundamental concepts defined in the DELOS Reference Model: architecture, content, functionality, policy, quality, user. Techniques for interoperability will be crucial in reconciling different approaches in systems dealing with any one of these concepts. DL.org follows an innovative approach by systematically addressing DL interoperability issues from the perspective of the six characterising concepts.
To this end, DL.org co-ordinates 6 Working Groups comprising internationally renowned experts chartered with identifying and evaluating best practices and technology patterns to deliver valuable insights into interoperability solutions for Digital Library (DL) systems. By harnessing the global expertise that exists in these areas on a global level, DL.org is playing an instrumental role in integrating current efforts and fostering a new approach and methodology for achieving interoperability.
