In partnership with the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI) we are holding our 5th International Digital Curation Conference on the theme "Moving to Multi-Scale Science: Managing Complexity and Diversity" at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel & Conference Centre London Kensington.

In a similar vein to last year's conference, this year's event will kick-off with a day of pre-conference workshops on Wednesday 2 December (agenda) on the following topics:

  • Disciplinary Dimensions of Digital Curation: New Perspectives on Research Data
  • Digital Curation 101 Lite Training
  • Citability of Research Data
  • Repository Preservation Infrastructure (REPRISE) - (co-organised by the OGF Repositories Group, OGF-Europe, D-Grid/WissGrid)

This will be followed by a drinks reception sponsored by Microsoft Research from 7.00-8.30pm in the Visions of Earth hall [external] of the Natural History Museum from where visitors can ride up through the globe to browse the Earth's Treasury

The first day of the conference on Thursday 3 December will address the concept of a data-driven infrastructure for science — looking at the wide range of scale, discipline, skills, sectors, and funding. This part of the programme will include invited speakers in plenary sessions together with an interactive afternoon, including a "Community Space" for posters, demonstrations and informal meetings and an opportunity to attend clinics on aspects of curation. The day's keynote presentation will be made by Prof. Douglas Kell, Chief Executive of Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC). Dedicated sessions will then focus on US and UK perspectives of Scalability.

The second day of the conference, Friday 4 December will be dedicated to practitioner approaches, solutions and models, with peer-reviewed papers in themed parallel sessions. The day's keynote presentations will be made by Prof. Ed Seidal, Associate Director, Directorate of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, National Science Foundation; and Timo Hannay, Publishing Director, Nature.com, Nature Publishing Group.
