Library of Congress to Preserve Public Tweets

On 14 April 2010 the co-founder of Twitter, Biz Stone, announced it has agreed to donate its entire achive of public tweets to the Library of Congress.

The tweets will be donated to the Library of Congress for preservation and research.At 55 million tweets a day, of which only a small percentage are private), the world's largest library will be responsible for cataloguing a huge amount of tweets.

A pioneer in the field and co-founder of the World Digital Library, the Library of Congress has enhanced its collection of photos thanks to contributions from the public, who have helped identify not only relatives who were owners of farms but also sportsmen from the past. Now even more contributions from the public will make their way into the Library's collections.
