DL.org Tutorial & eTraining

DL.org is hosting a Tutorial on Digital Libraries Foundations and Interoperability, 29 May 2011 during the Extended Semantic Web Conference, 29 May-2 June 2011 in Heraklion, Crete. The tutorial ensures a conceptual framework alongside a hands-on session, building on our training programme, which includes contributions to the Digital Library section on Wikiversity.

The Tutorial opens with a lecture on definitions and systems related to digital libraries and the DL.org Digital Library Reference Model. Six lectures follow, each on the core concepts captured by the Reference Model: content, user functionality, policy, quality and architecture with a Q&A session to consolidate understanding. The rest of the session is dedicated to hands-on experience of digital libraries with demos on D4Science, TELPlus, OpenAIRE and Europeana, concluding with a lecture on interoperability challenges and solutions. Registration for the event is through the ESWC website.

Preparation and follow-up of the Tutorial is provided in the form of:

  • Multimodal resources including recorded lectures on the Reference Model and core concepts alongside downloadable presentations: DL.org eTraining - Multimodal Resources
  • DL.org eCourses hosted on the Digital Library section of Wikiversity
  • DL.org eCourses on the DELOS Reference Model, from which the DL.org Model stems.
